LA Street Scenes 2: A Boy's Life/A Girl's Life
“LA Street Scenes 2: A Boy’s Life/A Girl’s Life” is a powerful, moving experience that depicts the true moments in the lives of four teens: two boys who meet in a detention camp and two girls living in a group home. Based on actual events, the script was adapted from original stories written by the young men and women who lived them. The stories were created as part of the Write Now! workshops given by Diane Namm at a local detention camp and foster group home.
Through the Write Now! workshops, Ms. Namm helped these young men and women explore and share some of their darkest moments and discovered that through all of their hardship and pain, they still had hope for the future. In the heartfelt words of one participant, "I had a nightmare about what had happened to my mother every night of my life. And I never told anyone about it. After I wrote the scene and saw it acted out, my nightmare ended. Thank you for opening up my heart so I could know what hope feels like.”
As part of the Create Now! “LA Street Scenes 2” production, the young playwrights see their words take shape on stage and come alive as they are performed by professional actors in front of a theatre audience.
This is the only event of its kind and 100 percent of ticket sale proceeds support vital arts programs for thousands of high-risk and at-risk youth throughout Southern California.
Create Now! is an independent, 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1996. Our mission is to change the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth through creative arts mentoring, resources and opportunities. The organization serves troubled children and youth who have been abused, neglected, abandoned, orphaned, are left homeless, runaways, foster children, teen parents, victims of domestic violence, children of prisoners, substance abusers, gang members or incarcerated. For the past eleven years, we’ve reached over 10,000 of these problematic children.
